Exclusive: Interview with Gigi Rowe

Gigi Rowe is bound to become your next go-to favorite. Her infectious pop sound and stellar vocals make the perfect soundtrack of your every day. The gorgeous singer chatted with CelebMix about her inspirations, her hit single, and what she has for us next.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?

A glamorous runaway…I have a little red mustang, and I love throwing on a wig and sunglasses, jumping in my car and just driving for endless miles. It’s like I’m simultaneously running towards something and away from it. So much of what I create is derived from this sensibility and the idea of being a “girl on the run”.

Who and what are some of your influences?

Miami. Hot pink. The roaring ’20s. Blizzards (when I’m cozy inside with a down comforter and hot chocolate). The beach in every season. Cher, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna. ’80s vibes. ’90s ‘anything goes’ fashion. Custom-dyed wigs. High-waisted anything. Rock ‘n roll. The space age. Oversized mirrored shades. Major chords. Pop tunes. Rom-coms (I’ve officially exhausted the genre!)

What made you want to be an artist?

I think Cher was suspended somewhere high above a roaring arena crowd, and it was in that moment, from my seat as an enchanted spectator, that it clicked for me. Actually I think I was destined to be an artist long before that moment, but it was definitely a reaffirming (and epic!) experience. I love how freeing it is to be an artist. I can write my own story every day.

Tell us about your single “Run the Night”

“Run the Night” is the glamorous runaway anthem. It’s all about owning the moment, knowing what you want, and not being afraid to go for it.

What was your reaction when you found out “Run the Night” was going to be in Just Dance 2017?

It was the best! I got a call from my producer Ill Factor, and he told me I was definitely going to be a featured artist in Just Dance 2017. I almost couldn’t believe it was real. I had just arrived in LA, and I immediately booked a plane ticket back to Miami so I could get to the studio and cut the final vocals for “Run The Night”.

What is the story behind your EP “Hello Gigi Rowe”?

“Hello Gigi Rowe” is like a love letter to Miami (my city!) and an invitation to my part real and part imagined world.

What would you like fans and people new to your music to know about you?

That I love hearing from my fans – the Gigi Pops! Even at this early stage of my career, I’m incredibly touched that people take the time all over the world to reach out to me with words of encouragement, artwork they’ve created, videos of them dancing to my songs…It’s really inspiring for me to see how the music impacts my fans in their daily lives, and I want people to know how much I appreciate it.

What can we expect next for you?

I have a piano ballad coming out soon called “Cover Me Up”. I can’t wait for people to hear this song, because it shows a different side of me but something that is every bit as real as my pop-electro vibe. I’m also rehearsing for some upcoming performances like Miami Pride in April! Can’t wait to bring this all to life on stage.
